Frequently Asked Questions |
|
| How to 'decipher' the statistics generated by Webalizer ? |
To check the individual detailed statistics for each domain/sub-domain you must click on the Traffic Stats
icon. Once you choose the domain/sub-domain to check a new page will
load with detailed information for the traffic generated by the site
visitors. There are several terms you must be familiar with in order to
understand what those statistics mean:
Hits - indicate the number of requests made to the and
logged by the server; the requests can be for images, scripts, files,
i.e. web-content, each successfully logged request is considered a hit
Files - represents the number of files displayed to a
visitor, this includes all files related to the site and visible to the
visitor (html files, php files, images, audio/video files)
Pages - this statistic counts the number of pages viewed by
the visitors. In general everything with extension .html / .htm / .php
/ .cgi is considered and counted as a page. Unlike the Files counter the Pages statistic does not count images, audio/media files but only web-pages (regardless of the content displayed by them).
Sites - display the number of Unique IP addresses that visited the site. Please note that this does not
display the number of unique individual users but only the number of
Unique IP addresses. For instance visitors that are behind a NAT will
be counted as one Unique IP since they all have the same IP address.
Visits - an attempt to estimate and approximate the possible
number of Unique individual users that have visited the site. This is
done by comparing the time of the current visit with a pre-defined
value and if the difference is higher than 30 minutes (by default) than
this is counted as a Unique individual visit. Please note that this
value is just a mere approximation available for convenience it is not
an exact count of the unique individuals that have visited the site
since such statistical information cannot be obtained by just HTTP
protocol.
